Pakistan Cricket Board’s Mohsin Naqvi rejects a $400,000 VIP box to boost revenue for Champions Trophy 2025. Discover how PCB is enhancing stadiums and ensuring top-notch security for the event.
The excitement surrounding the Champions Trophy 2025 has reached a new level, with Pakistan all set to host its first major ICC event since the 1996 World Cup. As the tournament kicks off on Wednesday with a match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, the country is eager to provide a memorable experience for all cricket fans. While India will play its matches in Dubai, including the knockouts (if they qualify), the majority of the matches will be hosted in Pakistan. The build-up had seen concerns regarding potential delays in stadium work, but much of that anxiety has now subsided.
As the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) prepares for the prestigious tournament, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken a bold step to boost revenue for the event. According to reports from Samaa TV, Naqvi declined an offer for a luxurious $400,000 VIP box (INR 3.47 crore) at the Dubai stadium, where the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan match will be held on February 23. Instead of accepting the VIP treatment, Naqvi has chosen to sit in the general enclosure, instructing authorities to sell the tickets for the VIP box in order to generate more revenue for the event.
In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Mohsin Naqvi discussed the extensive investments made to upgrade Pakistan’s stadiums in preparation for the Champions Trophy. He emphasized that significant renovations have been made to iconic venues such as Gaddafi Stadium and National Stadium Karachi, transforming them into world-class facilities that meet the highest global standards. Naqvi also mentioned that the PCB’s investment has been fully self-funded, strengthening Pakistan’s cricketing infrastructure.
“Our stadiums last underwent significant renovations for the 1996 World Cup,” Naqvi explained. “Since then, the global cricketing landscape has evolved tremendously. We recognised that this event was an opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s ability to host top-tier international cricket, ensuring that our facilities meet the highest global standards for players, officials, and fans alike.”
Furthermore, Naqvi assured that comprehensive security plans have been put in place to ensure the safety of teams, officials, and spectators during the event. “As with any ICC event, the host nation must submit a comprehensive security plan for review by ICC security experts and representatives from participating countries,” he stated. “Our security plan was presented to the ICC Board in October 2024 and received unanimous approval, ensuring a safe and seamless experience for all.”
With these strategic steps, Pakistan is determined to make the Champions Trophy 2025 a resounding success, showcasing its cricketing potential on the global stage.
